The demographic data of the area indicates that the Borough is becoming increasingly diverse. In the 2001 Census survey, the population of Wokingham Borough was 150,229, this has since been estimated as 161900 (Office of National Statistics 2009). In 2001, 16.6% of the population were over 60. 6.1% of the Borough was from a Black and Minority Ethnic group. 10.9% of the population stated that they had a limiting long term illness.

As of May 2010, there were 23528 children attending the Boroughs schools.

In 2006, residents were asked "To what extent do you agree or disagree that this local area is a place where people from different backgrounds get on well together?". 66.6% of residents answered agree or tend to agree. This rose to 85% in 2008. The annual "Safe Communities" survey asks residents whether they have been a victim of crime. Residents that have responded saying they have been victims of racial, religious, homophobic or disability hate crime have been consistently low over the past few years.
