Fly-tipping and dumped rubbish

Fly-tipping is the dumping of rubbish onto any piece of land which does not have a licence to accept waste.

How to report fly-tipping

If you see any fly-tipping or dumped rubbish in Wokingham Borough use our online fly-tipping report form to let us know the location so we can clean up the area. 

If you see anyone fly-tipping, please report it. Do not approach the rubbish or any individuals carrying out fly-tipping. Make a note of:

  • Date
  • Time and place
  • What the rubbish looks like
  • Amount of rubbish
  • Description of any vehicles involved and their registration numbers
  • Descriptions of any person or people carrying out the act
  • Then contact our Waste Services on 0118 974 6339 / 6307 and we will take action, including contacting our colleagues at the Environment Agency.

 

Costs and dangers

Fly-tipped rubbish costs taxpayers money through their Council Tax to be collected. It can also be dangerous as it can cause a hazard to the public and the environment if it enters the water course.

Rubbish of particular concern is any that includes:

  • Chemicals
  • Syringes
  • Asbestos

 

Penalties

Fly-tipping is a criminal offence and can lead to prosecution with fines of up to £20,000.00 or 6 months imprisonment. The sentence may be more severe if considered at Crown Court or the waste is hazardous.
