Housing help

Home Owners Mortgage Support - Support to help homeowners remain in their homes if they fall on difficult times. The Mortgage Rescue Scheme (MRS) is designed to hep households threatened with repossession. There are two methods of help available

  • Shared Equity – where a Housing Associiation provides an equity loan and thereby shares ownership with you, enabling your payments to be reduced

  • Government mortgage to rent where a Housing Association buys your property & rents it back to you at a rent you can afford. 

Homelessness and Finding Accomodation - We can advise you as to whether you are likely to be eligible for the new Government Mortgage Rescue Scheme. Reading County Court Help Desk - Help with negotiation and advocacy at the hearing. Types of cases dealt with, Mortgage arrears, including applications to suspend warrants. Rent arrears with both social and private landlords, applications to suspend warrants. Bankruptcy, administration orders and charging orders are also dealt with. A service can be provided with cases listed on a different day if the adviser is available or the case is complicated or if the client is vulnerable. Call 0845 071 6379

Private Tenants in difficulties - The Housing Needs team can talk to you about problems you may be having with your rental payments and help you negotiate with your landlord. The team will also be able to advise you about how to get information about benefit entitlement. Call 0118 974 6760 

Help with Rent in Advance - If you are just setting out into a private let and need help with funding Rent in Advance and Deposit monies, Housing Needs may (depending on your individual circumstances) be able to help you.

Citizens Advice Bureau - Offer free, independent and confidential advice on mortgage arrears, rent arrears and repossession. Call 0844 499 4126

The Consumer Credit Counselling Service - CCCS - is a charity with 15 years experience of helping people to become debt free.  All help and advice from CCCS is free of charge and you can access debt counselling in the privacy of your own home through their online tool, CCCS Debt Remedy. Call: 0800 138 1111.

GOV.UK - Provides information on how you can get help and support if you are homeless or face the prospect of losing your home. 

Jobcentre Plus - Can tell you if you are eligible for any state benefits including help with your mortgage interest. 

National Debtline - Provides a free, confidential service that gives independent advice about coping with debt. Call 0808 808 4000

The Pension Service - Provides advice on Pension Credit and other benefits you might be entitled to if you are a pensioner. Call  0845 6060265

Shelter - Is a charity that provides information and advice on homelessness, eviction, repossession, paying for a home, finding a place to live, families and relationships.
