An Independent Parental Supporter can help parents by

- Helping to understand the special educational needs assessment procedures
- Assisting with letter and report writing
- Giving confidence to express views
- Accompanying parents to meetings and visits to schools
- Helping parents to draw up a profile of their child
- Obtaining further information
- Remaining calm and reassuring
Must a parent have an Independent Parental Supporter?
No, but most parents benefit from having one. The Parent Partnership Service provides trained volunteers who are able to undertake this role and support families. Schools and other professionals can tell you about the Parent Partnership Service. If you would like the support of an Independent Parental Supporter then contact 0118 908 8233 or email parent.partnership@wokingham.gov.uk.
