Bridges Resource Centre
Bridges is a resource centre, run by us, offering services to families with disabled children and young people. Services provided at Bridges are planned and developed in consultation with children, young people, their families and other agencies.
Who can use Bridges?
The centre provides services to children aged 8 to 18 with physical and / or learning disabilities who live in Wokingham Borough. Disabled children and young people are referred to the centre through the Disabled Children's Team.
What services are offered at the centre?
Children who come to Bridges are able to make new friends, develop their interests and have fun. Activities and services offered at Bridges range from overnight and day time respite care to arts, crafts and drama.
Social events are organised at Bridges throughout the year for children and young people, their friends and families.
In addition to activities at Bridges, disabled children and young people are also taken on trips, e.g. to the cinema, etc.
Services provided at Bridges are flexible and can be adapted to meet the needs of individual children and give them the opportunity to develop their skills and interests.
Our key standards
We promise that we will:
- Ensure that each child is treated with respect and dignity and that their religious beliefs and cultural background are taken into account
- Provide a variety of opportunities and experiences that promote the child’s personal and social development, responding to the child’s abilities rather than disabilities
- Work in partnership with parents and carers
- Ensure that children in our care are safe
- Use ways of communication which are appropriate to each child
