In year admissions

There are three normal points of entry for school applications:

  • Entry to primary or infant schools

  • Junior school transfer - year 2 to year 3

  • Primary to secondary school transfer - year 6 to year 7

We co-ordinate admissions for people applying outside of the above normal points of entry known as 'in-year' or 'casual' admissions. This includes applications for Voluntary Aided schools. Reasons for moving your child may include wanting to:

  • change from one Wokingham Borough school to another due to a change of address or

  • change schools within the Borough for personal or educational reasons

Moving to the Wokingham Borough from outside the area

Many of the schools in the Borough may already be full and moving into an area does not guarantee a place at a preferred school.

It is recommended that any issues are addressed with the current school prior to consideration of moving a school.

In both instances, we can advise you on the availability of school places or discuss the options open to you.

Applications will only be considered half a term in advance of a place being required. Additional information will be required for those moving from abroad.

Application forms can be obtained by contacting:

In-year Fair Access Protocols

The School Admissions Forum has agreed the following protocols for the admission of children in-year with effect from September, 2007 and in accordance with the School Admissions Code:

  1. Managed Transfers and Reintegration of Pupils in Secondary Schools

  2. Managed Transfers and Reintegration of Pupils in Primary Schools

  3. Looked After Children and Casual Admissions

  4. Placement of Vulnerable Pupils

In some instances implementation of a Protocol allows for the admission of children above the admission number. Consideration of applications that may fall within one of the above groups will be by a Panel of officers and, where necessary, school representatives.

Written copies are available on request from the School Admissions Team.
