Commercial waste

Your responsibility as a business

Businesses have a legal 'duty of care' to ensure that any waste they produce is handled safely and within the law.

Commercial and industrial wastes, including hazardous/special wastes, are classified as ‘controlled waste’.

The duty applies to businesses who produce, import, transport, store, treat or dispose of controlled waste.

Home based

If your business is home based, any waste you produce is classed as business waste . It must be kept and disposed of separately from your household waste.

Visit the Gov.uk business waste website for more information on your responsibilities as a business.

Waste disposal and collections by us

Waste collection and disposal is not included in your annual Business Rates.

We can arrange for a business waste collection and disposal with Veolia - our licensed waste management contractor.

You can contact Veolia directly on 01256 473671 to arrange disposal.

Details of other local licensed waste management companies can be found in telephone and online directories.

Waste should only be transferred to someone who is authorised to receive it e.g. a licensed/permitted waste contractor or waste management site.

You need to keep documentary evidence of your waste management and possibly environmental permits depending on quantities and types of wastes.
