Licence Summary
Anyone giving an exhibition, demonstration or performance of Hypnotism on any person or in connection with entertainment to which the public are admitted whether by payment or otherwise is required to obtain authorisation from the Council by way of consent.
A separate application must be made by the person who will be carrying out the act of Hypnotism in relation to each premises/venue intended to be used.
Permission from the owner of the premises where the activity will take place is not required as part of the application process.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must have appropriate public liability insurance in place for any proposed events.

Application process
Complete an application form and return it to the Licensing Team. Applications should be submitted at least 28 days before the performance, otherwise the application may not be determined in time.
You must wait until the application has been determined before any hypnotism activities can take place.

Can I appeal if my application is refused?
Please contact us in the first instance.
Any applicant who is refused a licence or wants to object to a condition on the licence can appeal to their local magistrates’ court within 21 days of receiving notice of the decision.
Complaints about hypnotists
If you wish to complain that a hypnotist is causing a nuisance, or if you believe that there has been a breach of licence conditions, please contact us. If you are in the UK, you can also contact Consumer Direct who will give you advice. From outside the UK please contact the UK European Consumer Centre.
How your application will be processed
Once a completed application form is received and the information has been checked, the following agencies will be consulted: Police, Fire Authority, Health and Safety, Local Safeguarding Children’s Board and relevant ward members.
If there are no objections to the application, it will be approved and issued subject to conditions. (see below). If there is an objection with the application, it will be referred to a sub-committee of the council’s Licensing and Appeals Committee for a hearing of the application.

You must ensure that you are able to comply with Hypnotism licenceconditionsthat shall be imposed on any consent given.
