Amusements with prizes licensing
The provision of amusements with prizes can take a variety of forms.
The use of machines for gaming by way of amusements with prizes is controlled by the Gaming Act 1968. When a premises is devoted wholly or mainly to the provision of amusements by means of machines an application must be made to the local authority for a permit.
Premises licensed for the sale of alcohol who provide low level gaming machines or amusement with prizes machines need to apply for the grant or renewal of a licence to the local authority. For alcohol licensed premises this was previously dealt with by the Magistrates Court.
There are certain types of premises where the use of gaming machines is not allowed as the Council has passed a resolution to prohibit their use. The types of premises this refers to are:
- Takeaways
- Cafes
- Coin operated laundries
