Alcohol and entertainment licensing
Under the Licensing Act 2003 a Premises Licence is required for:
- The sale or supply of alcohol
- Regulated entertainment - live or recorded music, plays, films, dancing, etc
- Late night refreshments
A Personal Licence is needed to authorise the sale of alcohol, although small scale events may be licensed using a Temporary Event Notice.
There are 4 licensing objectives, each of equal importance:
- Prevention of crime and disorder
- Public safety
- Prevention of public nuisance
- Protection of children from harm
The magistrates court no longer issues liquor licences and the we are now the responsible authority for all licensing matters. Find out more by reading our licensing policy.
