How safe is your design project?

Our Environmental Health team work closely with the Planning, Building Control and Highways departments to ensure that all building projects and alterations are designed and carried out safely.

We want to ensure that any potential Health and Safety issues are ‘designed out’ during the planning and design stage of the project rather than having to be dealt with later, which may involve a greater cost to business.

All new planning and building control applications are forwarded to the Environmental Health team for consideration. You will be contacted by letter if it is felt that your project may involve health and safety considerations.

Your responsibilities

All workplaces must conform to the requirements of the Workplace Health Safety and Welfare Regulations. This includes workplace transport and pedestrian segregations, floor surfaces and lighting requirements.

The Construction Design and Management Regulations lay down the legal requirements for all types of construction projects even very small alterations and refurbishment projects:-

The Health and Safety Executive have devised some case studies which give examples where health and safety hazards can be rectified/avoided at the design/planning stage:-
