New Food Hygiene Legislation
As of 1st January 2006 the Food Hygiene - England - Regulations come into force and replaced most of the old food hygiene national legislation. The full range of food hygiene national legislation revoked or amended is set out in Schedule 7 of the regulations.
There are a number of new EC Regulations, which apply directly to food businesses in the UK. Most of the actual requirements have not changed, they continue to put an obligation on businesses to ensure that food safety risks have been identified and controlled and that all of their activities are carried out in a hygienic way.
They also make it an offence for anyone to sell or process food for sale which is harmful to health. An estimated five million people suffer from food poisoning in England and Wales each year. Running a food business means that you have a particular responsibility to protect the health of your customers. The food safety team are responsible for ensuring that businesses comply with all food safety and food standards laws.
