Food alerts

Food Alerts are issued by the Food Standards Agency informing local authorities about problems associated with food.

The local authorities then take appropriate action. This may be in the form of a press release, writing to individual companies requesting them to withdraw a product from sale or seizing food which presents an inherent danger to the consumer.

Food Hazard Warnings are currently issued under 2 categories:

  • For action
  • For information

Food Alerts are often issued in conjunction with a product withdrawal or recall by a manufacturer, retailer or distributor.
