The cheapest way to get married or form a civil partnership is in a Register Office. This costs £45 plus £4 for each certificate. This does not have to be in the district where you live. You can have your ceremony in any Register Office in England and Wales. The Register Office will only accommodate the bride, groom and 2 witnesses.
Wokingham Register Office
Wokingham Register Office is located at:
Wokingham Register Office
The Register Office room is very small and will only accommodate the Bride, Groom and 2 witnesses.
Please call for availability.
There are silk flowers on a table and a pedestal provided. The room will not accommodate a professional photographer but photographs can be taken by witnesses. We can play a selection of classical music.
Wokingham Ceremony Room
We have a Ceremony Room which is available for booking. It is available 7 days a week. The room can accommodate the Bride, Groom, and a maximum of 26 guests.
The fees are:
- Monday to Thursday: £134
- Friday and Saturday: £237
- Sunday and Bank Holiday: £340
You can provide your own flowers, which can be delivered on the day, or use the silk flower pedestals provided. A photographer can view the room beforehand, by prior arrangement. For music, you can use your own CD player/iPod or use our CD player (which will also take an iPod) but this must be operated by a guest. If you use our player, please bring in your CDs prior to the ceremony to ensure they will play on our player.
Registrar booking service
For a wedding, you will need to book a Registrar (or a Civil Partnership Officer for a civil partnership.) As soon as you've made a provisional venue booking, check with us that there is a team available on your chosen day and time. Don't pay a deposit for the venue until you've booked the registrar team.
The fee for our Registrar service is as follows:
- Monday to Thursday: £368
- Friday and Saturday: £424
- Sunday and Bank Holidays: £483
Payment can be made by cheque (made payable to: Wokingham Borough Council), cash or card (excluding American Express.) A surcharge of 1.75% applies to payments made by credit card.
What happens next?
Once you've booked the registrar team you will receive:
- A letter from us confirming the place, date, and time of the ceremony, plus information about your legal requirement to 'Give Notice'. (Read our giving notice page for more details.)
- A 'Wedding Pack': including a 'Details of Your Ceremony' form that you will need to complete and return to us as soon as possible. This will allow you to personalise your ceremony.
Read our Wedding ceremony process (PDF document) and Civil Partnership ceremony process (PDF document) for details about how the ceremony will flow.
